We have been installing conservatories for twenty years and conservatory roofs have come on a long way in that time frame. In the eighties we and most other companies were installing 16mm polycarbonate sheeting into roofs. It was fine for the summer but made the conservatory very expensive and difficult to heat in winter.

Many double glazing companies through the period were not giving best advice to clients who have ended up with clear glass or polycarbonate and very few opening windows in south facing situations. Very good for tomatoes….not so great to spend the summer in … unless you enjoy sitting in an oven.

Some homeowners may have thought they bought a ‘maintenance free’ conservatory and therefore neglected to clean the roof, resulting in panels that have turned green with mould.
