A Conservatory make-over with full regulation approval

When Mr & Mrs C moved into their home, it came with a timber Victorian style conservatory that was a little too small. They called us in several years ago to extend the room by adding a lean to end and changing all the frames and roof.

Over the last hot summer they were frustrated at not being able to use the space to its full potential as it was uncomfortably hot inside. They were approached by a local company who retro fit lightweight tiled roofs but felt uneasy at the dubious ‘advice’ given.

This prompted them to ask us if we would consider taking on the project. Coincidentally this was at a point where we were negotiating with building control over an installation approval method for such work. Mr C was told by the other firm that their system was ‘approved’ but on further investigation and advice from us, found that this was not the same as Full Certificated Approval.

We have completed the work and the clients are over the moon with their new garden room.

Do not get caught out when carrying out modifications such as this. Always check with the local authority building control officer reference proper permissions.
