Admiral Homespace wins Retailer of the Year

Cambridgeshire based Admiral Homespace was awarded the accolade ‘Retailer of the Year’ in the 2009 Huntingdonshire Business Awards on Friday evening at a gala dinner hosted by Archant Newspapers. The compere for the evening Stewart White of BBC Look East fame, is a regular presenter for the annual awards now in their thirteenth year. Steve Thorogood the Managing Director of Admiral thanked Stewart and the sponsors on behalf of his team and was delighted when Stewart remembered that it is the second time that Admiral have won the award, the first being in 2003. Timber Windows are back

Timber makes a comeback! After twenty years of replacing wood windows with PVC double glazing Admiral Homespace are reporting an avalanche of requests to put timber windows back in again! Although new build estates are now installing plastic windows as standard, the more discerning homeowners are often looking for alternative window materials such as aluminium and timber frames. Timber in particular has made a massive comeback. Despite being considerably more expensive than PVC, hardwood, soft wood and oak are being specified for windows doors and conservatories in ever increasing numbers. Engineered timber sections prevent the twisting and sticking associated with old wooden windows and the micro porous stain paint finishes mean that whatever wood is used, the windows will last for decades with minimal maintenance. Where do old windows and doors go to die?

For the past twenty years we have been taking out old frames and replacing them with PVC, Aluminium and Timber Windows and Doors. Only occasionally thinking of where the skip full of glass, wood and debris actually ends up. Recently we decided to look into it further and were shocked to find that all of the waste going into our skips was headed direct to landfill sites. Literally making mountains …..out of old windows !! Taking our 100 ish frames a month and multiplying it nationally provides some really shocking statistics.
